I first trained as a counsellor before completing my psychotherapy training at the Metanoia Institute, specialising in Gestalt therapy. What drew me to Gestalt was its belief that we are all naturally oriented towards wholeness, health, and well-being. By working with these innate strengths, we can move closer to our full potential. I was also inspired by its creative approach and its emphasis on the “here-and-now” relationship between therapist and client, which I have found to be a powerful foundation for meaningful change.
Alongside my private practice, which I have been running for over 30 years, I have also held senior leadership roles in charities providing low-cost or free therapeutic services. Much of this work centred on supporting people facing significant disadvantage.
Over the years I have continued to broaden and deepen my practice, particularly through training in EMDR and attachment-focused EMDR. I have also explored trauma in depth, including the neuroscience of trauma and the complex links between trauma and attachment. These perspectives continue to enrich my work and allow me to respond flexibly to the different needs of each client.
I now work exclusively in private practice, providing therapy and supervision online via Zoom. I work with adults across a broad range of issues, always aiming to offer a safe, supportive, and collaborative space in which meaningful change can take place.
Attachment-focused therapy looks at how our earliest relationships with parents or caregivers shape the way we see ourselves and connect with others. When those bonds are secure, they provide a foundation of safety and trust. But if they were disrupted or inconsistent, we may carry patterns of anxiety, avoidance, or insecurity into adult life and relationships.
In my work, I combine a Gestalt approach, which brings awareness to the “here-and-now” experience between client and therapist, with EMDR and attachment-focused EMDR. These methods together can help uncover how past experiences are still shaping the present, while also offering ways to process and release the impact of trauma. The therapeutic relationship itself becomes a safe and consistent space where new, healthier patterns of relating can emerge.
This way of working can support greater self-acceptance, emotional resilience, and the ability to form more secure and fulfilling connections with others.
